Position/Job Description
Purpose: To care for the maintenance, sanitation, cleanliness, and safety of the school plant and grounds
Reports To: Principal
Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Experience in custodial work or equivalence preferred
-
Proficiency in the use of custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
-
Clean and sanitize all restrooms including the floors.
-
Maintain proper care and disposal of all trash and recyclables.

Perform general cleaning of classrooms, offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, and all related areas. Duties include but are not limited to the following: vacuum, mop, sweep, dust, disinfect and sanitize, scrub, wash windows, strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets

Open designated areas and turn off night lights in the morning.

Check for and report vandalism.

Clean and sanitize drinking fountains.

Restock supplies in all restrooms.

Maintain the grounds as specified by the Principal.

Secure designated buildings, as assigned.
-
Attend to odd jobs that need quick attention.
-
Prepare classrooms and/or other spaces as needed for activities.

Move furniture and equipment.
-
Maintain and operate equipment to ensure optimum performance and report need for repairs to the Principal or Plant Maintenance.

Inform administration or Plant Maintenance of repairs requiring work orders.
-
Clean up after accidents or illnesses.
-
Replace light bulbs and tubes as needed.
-
Adjust the heating and cooling temperatures of site.
-
Maintain cleanliness of air conditioner filters, return air grilles, and vents.
-
Care for all campus floors and carpets in an efficient manner.
-
Remove snow and ice from walkways and steps as necessary.
-
Successfully complete employee safety orientation and maintain safety standards for self and the District.

Perform minor repair services.
-
Perform light painting, as assigned by the Principal.

Participate in training instructions and activities.
-
Work with staff, students, parents, and the general public in a professional and appropriate manner.

Maintain confidentiality.
-
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Equipment/Materials:
Standard cleaning equipment including but not limited to vacuums, buffer, wax stripper, carpet shampooer.
Physical Requirements: Heavy Work

Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
-
Ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 40 pounds constantly to move objects
Physical Activities:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, and reach

Ability to push, pull, or lift exerting up to 100 pounds of force

Finger Dexterity - picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.

Grasping – applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling – perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Repetitive Motion – substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

Hearing Acuity – perceiving speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels.

Visual Acuity – seeing at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.

Vision
Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions as activities occur both inside and outside.
Salary: Commensurate with the school district’s Classified Salary Schedule
